Within the valley of East Rosebud in Roscoe, Montana once lay the Tee-O-Bar dude ranch.

In the 1930s, this iconic chapter of the ranch's history was captured by artist and guest, J.T. Dutmer. We are honored to have the opportunity to reproduce a few of our favorite images from Dutmer's recently discovered jewel of an album.

THE ARTIST BEHIND THE ALBUM : J. T. Dutmer

In the 1930‘s, the Branger family opened their working cattle ranch to city slickers craving a taste of the cowboy life out west as a Dude Ranch. An artist and guest named, J.H. Dutmer from Chicago brought along a his camera and documented his frequent visits each season.

Mr. Dutmer compiled an album full of iconic imagery which was eventually abandoned and found at a yard sale in Chicago. This album was kept on a coffee table in for visitors to enjoy until a friend thoughtfully suggested that the family in this album might appreciate seeing these images. In 2007, the album was sent to Sybil Branger, the wife of the late Chris Branger who is captured in many of the photographs and lived and worked on the ranch with his family in Roscoe, Montana.

Sybil who has since become a dear friend shared this priceless album with me, the new owner of the homestead. Knowing my deep affinity with the history of the historic remnant of a ranch, I dove deep into these images. Over one hundred years later, the images are still palpable and have given an entirely new sensibility to the sacred valley of East Rosebud and the remnants of Tee-O-Bar Ranch.

We are indebted to Mr. Dutmer who beautifully captured a time and place in the history of the west and the Tee-O-Bar Ranch whose legacy lives on.

All sales will go toward supporting Sybil and her families’ cattle ranch down the road in East Rosebud & Mourning’s dream of preserving the red barn as a foundation for creativity.

We thank you kindly in advance for your support.
